Of Passion and Pursuit

When was the last time you stayed up all night because of something you were so passionate about? Codie Sanchez advices on a podcast, that if it’s been a while since that happened then you should push yourself to find those things.

I asked myself that question and couldn’t remember chasing any of my passions to that extent. For example, I’m passionate about design education and the state of it in Nigeria (and Africa at large). However, I realize that for me to see big impact changes, I must chase my passion for design eduction with a fervour that is just as impactful and evident.

In our world today, convenience, ease, and instant results have been proliferated amongst the generation that should be discovering their passions and wildly pursuing them. This leads to us being impatient with processes and intolerant of the pains that come with growth.

However, there’s something honourable about taking interest in something and wrestling with it until it produces results. You build character; you build perseverance; you build stamina. And, as I said in my previous article, you are able to build a deep knowledge and appreciation of the subject matter because you’ve sat with it for so long.

The more difficult things you can champion, the more likely you are to lead a life of fulfillment and success. Because it is in those moments of passionate struggle that meaning, and a recurring hunger to live up to that meaning, are born.

It takes the strength of interest — the fire of passion — to create change in the world.
